The Omaha Clay Courts Association was formed in 2002 by a group of tennis
enthusiasts
concerned about the continuation of tennis activities at Dewey Park and
interested in the
possibility of having clay courts at that site . The main purpose of the
group has been to form an
agreement with the city of Omaha for the construction, ongoing operation
and maintenance of
such courts. Under the leadership of Jack Mallett, a volunteer board of
directors was formed and
more than 130 people contributed to become charter members. With this show
of interest, the
City of Omaha, through the Department of Parks and Recreation, provided
major funding for the
construction of three clay courts, which were completed in mid-summer, 2005.
The OCCA has formed a non-profit, tax-exempt entity for the daily operation
and maintenance of
the courts. Contributions beyond the membership fees are tax-deductible.
An annual membership allows members to reserve courts and play without
further charge.
Members can add immediate family (spouse and children) for additional charge
Public non-
members may reserve and play at designated hours by paying court fees.
League formation and
play is encouraged, and tournaments are planned from time to time. In
addition, OCCA is
providing free court time to deserving young tennis players.
